Crum a veteran of the Boer War, an ardent supporter of the use of sniping returned to soldering in 1915 and going to France he recounts his experiences in 1916. He was invited by General Skinner to join his staff of the 41st Brigade to run the snipers and intelligence unit, later starting a brigade school for sniping. A keen supporter of the boy scout movement the 38page appendix, Appendix I relates a lecture on scouting to 150 officers at Aldershot "During the next few days is to bring it about that more Bosches maybe killed and more of good fellows spared", Appendix II Final results of experience 1918 with course syllabus. Appendix III works with boy scouts July 1918 to July 1919. A scarce booklet and more so in the original card covers.

Ownership signature of A St. H. Aubrey to the front-end paper, with a photo in card envelope of Aubrey in military uniform he was "Platoon CMDR Sheepbridge WKS. Home Guards" also a loose home guard pamphlet and a newspaper cutting. A very good copy of a scarce title and seldom found in this condition due to the "War Economy Standard" at the time. Faibairn spent over 30 years in the Shanghai Municipal Police where he oversaw the famous Riots Squads and was their Chief Instructor in self-defense" he was also co-designer of the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife, instructions for the use of are contained in the book. Walbridge a weapon training officer and well known for his prowess with the rifle, he details the use of the rifle and bayonet. Many of the drawings in the book show combat situations with British soldiers and German soldiers apart from hand-to-hand fighting Fairbairn details the use of the knife.

Fairbairn was also co-designer of the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife, not in Riling.
