Handwritten note to the front paste down noting the book was presented to the Royal United Service Institution by Major. Longstaff May 1933, to front free end paper the Institutions book plate. Bound in a full dark red morroco with gilt tile to the upper board with a central large Royal Crest, within decorative rolled gilt frames, and repeated to the rear cover. The spine in 6 compartments with gilt title, compartments with ornate tooling. Some surface rubbing to corners and edges, the bottom of spine chipped. A very good copy with the provenance of the Royal Crest. The instructions cover the use of the The Enfield Pattern 1853 rifle-musket, Royal Small Arms Factory developed the Pattern 1853 Enfield in the 1850s. The 39 in (99 cm) barrel had three grooves, with a 1:78 rifling twist, and was fastened to the stock with three metal bands, so that the rifle was often called a "three band" model. The rifle's cartridges contained 2+1/2 drams, or 68 grains (4.4 g)[3] of gunpowder, and the ball was typically a 530-grain (34 g).

A periodical written and published from the works of the Kynoch Company Birmingham, Volume I number 1 October ? November 1899 to number 6 August ? September Vol II number 7 October 1900 to number 12 August - September 1901 The title pages to each part are included in the pagination and have a photo portrait. Each volume illustrated throughout from photographs drawings and diagrams, etc, some spotting to the blank endpaper. Bound in a contemporary half brown morroco over a green cloth with gilt title to the upper cover, some light rubbing to the spine edges and outer corners. An extremely rare periodical on the gun trade. Vol I introduction states, "Our paper, as its title implies will be written and published from the Works of the Kynoch Company in Birmingham. All articles upon subjects in which the Kynoch Company, by virtue of its operations as ammunition manufacturers may claim to have an interest, will be written by those having a bona ? fide connection with the Company." There was a further volume published in the 4to format covering October 1901 ? September 1902. Later volumes, unlike the first 3 volumes these are of a smaller format printed on a different type of paper with less illustrations, the publication ended in September 1907.
