The book details the use of powder and shot, best shot sizes, black powder pressures, influence of wads etc.

There are 30+ subjects covered from care of arms, aiming, wind direction, firing instructions, firing positions etc., judging distance etc., followed by a list of lectures, many pages have diagrams etc., also names of lecturers. A soldiers working notebook just prior to the outbreak of WWI at the Southern Command School of Musketry. there is no immediate way of identifying the owner only what is left of the paper label on the front cover "Sec Lt A Ba..." removal of the label or further research may identify the owner.

Manuscript book belonging to 2nd Lieut C.R. Jennings 2nd Reserve Reg of Cavalry Newbridge. The book recording lecture and Jennings observations relating to explosives and types of hand grenades etc The album measures 24 cm x 19 cm with a hand written title page and approximately 67 single side pages all filled and written neatly in ink in a legible hand, with 7 small diagrams. The pages Interleaved with 25 folding printed drawings showing the grenades and their components and make up all titled with descriptive captions. The pages and plates have a single faint oval stamp of "Irish Command Bombing School Dublin". The lectures 11 in all cover explosives, the types of grenades including rifle grenades, throwing, organisation of bombers, attack, Bombers in defence, Blocking Trenches, German and French Grenades. The contents clean and tight and bound in the original plain dark brown ? leather with cloth covered boards some light rubbing to head of spine. Also included are a loose Bomb -Throwing Instructor Certificate for Jennings noting he is a first class instructor dated August 1917.A similar certificate dated April 1918 certifying Jennings as an instructor of signalling. A printed card Titled "Pigeon Services" detailing the care and use of messenger pigeons. A folding pamphlet detailing the service of The Second Cavalry Division from 1914-1918. Finally Jennings Dispersal Certificate for 16 Nov 1919 it notes Jennings full name as Charles Richard Jennings born 1888 married original occupation "continental Services"? etc. The agreement of his dispersal signed by Jennings to rear.
