Includes a 20 page chapter on trapping and decoying birds and animals. The British Library dates 1878 as the 1st published by the Bazaar, and 1884 for the 2nd published by Upcott Gill. Small 8vo 103 pages frontis portrait of Cara Buxton + 2 other plates Armorial book plate of R.C.Fiske to front paste down. Publishers grey blue cloth with gilt monogram C.G.B to upper board. A very good + copy of a rare title, not recorded by Czech, one copy located on Worldcat at the University of Texas Miss Buxton first visited the country on a shooting expedition in 1910 and a few years later came out as a settler. She originally took up land in Kericho but settled in Lumbwa district in 1920. The book is made up of a report to The Eastern Daily Press in 1912 on her first expedition. Followed by copies of letters Cara sent from 1912 to 1920 to Maggie and occasionally Mabel and an Aunt all dated and identifying the place from where they were sent. Her letters mention her life in Africa the war and some hunting. The letters resume in 1926 and includes a trip to Palestine much of her time seem to be taken up now with her Church and care for the local people there is still some mention of hunting. The book ends with Caras obituary she died in 1936 at the age of 61. I can only assume the letters were put together by a family member for distribution to family members.
