She originally took up land in Kericho but settled in Lumbwa district in 1920. The book is made up of a report to The Eastern Daily Press in 1912 on her first expedition. Followed by copies of letters Cara sent from 1912 to 1920 to Maggie and occasionally Mabel and an Aunt all dated and identifying the place from where they were sent. Her letters mention her life in Africa the war and some hunting.
