approx. 10.5 x 16 cm 28 pages in a neat legible hand original stitched card covers with hand written title and owners names to upper flap. Some foxing to contents and covers. The owner's names are, Henry Herring and Charles Barnwell Herring. The first 20 pages run from January to October giving the day and month and fishing location with notes on fish caught baits and general observations in most cases initialed by HH or CBH to bottom of page. Then follows 6 pages from April 1827 to August. The last 3 pages is a list of 24 things "He that would be a complete angler ought to know". The fishing takes place in Norfolk waters i.e. Heigham , Foundry Bridge ,Wroxham, Keswick, Wramplingham, Ashwicken etc. Charles Barnwell Herrin born 1801 was the Rev and Lord of the Manor of Mileham Norfolk. A very good early diary in good condition with a good province more research needed.

Small 13.5 cm x 9.5 cm landscape register circa 80 pages of which 40 are filled in ink. Columns printed in red for Date, "Where Caught, River , Rods , Fly, Weight, Total, Remarks". The fishing starts in April 1934 fishing for trout and sea trout on the river Nairn? 4 pages. From 1935 to 1943 most of the fishing takes place on the river Bladnoch for salmon details on the pools, fly, the fish and general remarks on the days fishing. The fish caught range from 8lb to 20 lbs. The fishing takes place from February to October with circa 40 fish per year. A well-presented game book with "John Macpherson Sporting Stores Inverness" label to the front-end paper. All page edges gilt bound in full tan leather , a very good copy. There is no identification to the compiler other than initials of friends? in the remarks. More research may well identify the owner.

With the contributions of some of the great anglers of the time, edited by Martin Mosely A.C. Kent and R.B. Marston, the journal carried on thorough the difficult war years although having to be checked by Whitehall before publication.

He also notes that he has tried to contact as many of the people or relations of those who appear in the book "and there were quite a few in the 120 copies given away". Franks give a detailed record of fishing mainly on the river Test, a scarce title possibly only 130 copies were produced, not in the revised Hampton bibliography.

Despite the appelation "Edition Francaise," this is an issue of the English language edition. The French language edition was entitled, "Les Ephemeres: Les Mouches Artificielles et Leur Montage."
