Small 4to coloured frontis to volume one illustrated with full page and text illustrations from photographs, drawings, sepia plates, sketch maps etc, lacking one plate. Signed and numbered 389 by F.C. Hicks and dated 24-12-11 on the title page. In another hand below Asylum "so some plates upside down! "Browning to some pages, blank corner of one-page with old repair. To front free end paper bookplate of Stanley Jepson (editor of Big Game Encounters) in the rear pocket of volume two a typed letter signed by Jepson relating to shikar, his books and experiences + a note regarding the book from Foyles booksellers. + 3 snapshot photos of hunting party, a shoot leopard, and bear held by a lady. Original black cloth bindings with gilt titles and hunting vignettes to the upper covers, paper adverts for the book on rear covers Recent black cloth spine with red title labels. A good + copy, these two volumes completing volume one, a second volume was also issued, there were four volumes planned but never published each volume complete. Difficult to find in good condition and complete due to the poor quality of the Indian publishing A great deal of the book covers various tiger hunts in great detail, also buffalo and bear encounters.
