Original black half or quarter morroco, green cloth sides, spines lettered and decorated in gilt, Some chipping to bottom of spine volume 1, light rubbing to some tips of corners, includes a letter with edge loss and slip of paper torn from a large document signed by Rhodes with different style of initials brief research Rhodes looks correct but initials look odd (they came loose in the book). A monumental work, the project conceived by Cecil Rhodes but the route to cross unchartered parts of the northern Congo and southern Sudan was not even surveyed by the time of publication, and the scheme was never completed. Weinthal has compiled the work from various sources and contributors; including such as Earl Buxton, Winston Churchill, Sir Percy Fitzpatrick, Theodore Roosevelt, Harry Johnston, Flinders Petrire Frederick Selous, J.C. Smuts, Francis Younghusband and many more. There is no shortage of information on the native peoples the tribes, big game nd wildlife, fauna geology, exploration geography, gold and diamond mining etc., Volume 3 contains chapters on big game hunting by such as Selous "big game in Equatorial", "Africa Sport in Southern Sudan", Afred Sharpe "Big Game Shooting On The Great lakes", Col Statham "Big Game In Angola" etc. Czech 296-297 lists only 3 volumes.
