Armorial bookplate of L.de Rothschild to front paste down. Bound in the publisher's ice blue cloth with multicolored mountain scene to upper cover with gilt title and gilt vignette of a tribe's man to the spine. Avery clean bright copy. The 1905 second edition was in plain red cloth. Waddell made several expeditions into the Himalayas over a period of 14 years "sketching, shooting, collecting and especially exploring" he. approached Mt. Everest more closely than any other European. The book covers the preparation for the journey, for his Himalayan adventure and climbing expedition.
