Unobtrusive stain to the very inner lower joint of the front-end paper of volume 2 similar mark to page 310/11 and the plate only effecting the inner blank margins and causing slight darkening to the cloth, also similar mark to volume 3 with small inner mark to page 267/68 and plate again only effecting the very inner blank margin, otherwise the contents clean and tight and free of foxing or inscriptions. Publishers' green cloth with Pease's gilt cypher to upper boards with cream cloth spine, cream cloth lightly dust soiled, 2cm bruise mark to front edge of the upper board of volume 3. A very good set of Pease's major and extensive work and quite scarce. "Pease recounts ten years of travel and hunting through various parts of Africa in this monumental late Victorian work. Volume One details Algeria and the Sahara regions with attendant sport after lions and antelope species. In Volume Two, Pease describes his time spent in Somaliland with bunts after lions and elephants, as well as antelopes, moths and butterflies. Volume Three continues a later expedition into Somaliland and southern Abyssinia hunting lions, elephants, rhinoceros and antelopes" Czech 215. The colour plates although somewhat naive are particularly evocative, mostly done by Pease at the time, as are the photographs.
