242 pages limited to 250 copies. Bookplate of Kenneth Doble to front paste down, two offset (2.5 x 1.25 cm) tape marks to both front and rear free end papers. Some very occasional spotting to contents and closed page edge. Very occasional pencil notes to margins relating to the book. Note to bottom margin of preface page the first letter A in ink possible the writer had second thought of using a pen! Original tan paper cover boards tan cloth spine. Paper title label to upper board and spine, the spine label chipped and cracked, some even darkening to the cloth. A purpose made cloth covered slipcase present. One of the rarest of big game hunting titles, this as privately printed by George L.Harrison in an edition of 250 copies for distribution to noteworthy African sportsmen and other luminaries. Harrison who was on Safari in Rhodesia in 1908 not only hunted with Finaughtys son, but later met the author and was given a set of the Rhodesian Journal which had serialized the elder Finaughtys recollections. From these, Harrison published the work less one chapter from an issue missing from his set. William Finaughty entered Matabeleland and Mashonaland in the 1860s, the "elephants practically did not know what a gun shot was".
